Easy Contour & Highlighting

Contouring and Highlighting are one of the many makeup techniques that every makeup addict should have under their belt. They can totally transform your face by improving your features & hiding your flaws. As Darker colours (Bronzer) push back areas while lighter colours (Highlighter) bring them forward!

Things you'll need!
* To contour, you will need a colour that is one to two shades darker than your foundation. The product you use has to be matte it can be a cream or powder bronzer, brown or taupe blusher or brown eye shadow. My current favourites are NYC Sunny Bronzer, Nars multiple in Tuomota, Dainty Doll Blusher in Million Dollar Babies, Chanel Bronze universal.

* To highlight, you will need a colour that is one to two shades lighter than your foundation. You can use a shimmery Cream/beige eyeshadow, a lighter foundation/concealer or a highlighter.My current Favourites are Dior Amber Diamonds, Accesorize Golden sands or Bourjois Beige Rose 08.

* I would highly recommend using pressed powders for Highlighting as they are the easiest to use. Also pick a colour that is neutral not to pink or Yellow for your skin tone.

Places to Contour
* Under your cheekbones
* Along both sides of your nose
* Bottom of your chin
* Jawline
* Creases of your eyes
* Temples

Places to Highlight
* Front of the forehead
* Along the bridge of your nose
* Right above your cheeks
* Inner corner of your eyes
* Browbone
* Center of your chin
* Cupid’s bow (Top lip)

Obviously you don't need to do it in all the above places this is just a guide as where you can do it depending on your features & flaws :)

Simply follow the picture taken from Kevyn Aucoin above, making sure to blend the lines by gently pressing the colour onto your face, I prefer using a Real Techniques Buffing Brush. But you can use your fingers, a brush or a damp make up sponge, Whichever you are most comfortable with, Make sure there are no harsh lines or edges, Also try not to mix the two colours together, it is always easier to add more colour – and experiment to find out what works best for you.
I would also only recommend doing the above on a night out, as it looks best with night lighting, during the day i tend to just lightly Contour under my cheek bones, sides of my forehead & under my chin with powder, If i do highlight in the day i would just add a little on the tops of my cheeks.

 I don't think contouring and highlighting is necessary for everyone, but it will definitely benefit you having a little contouring and highlighting. You just need lot's of practice and make sure everything is well-blended to make sure all lines disappear to make it look natural. I think it finishes a look making you look naturally gorgeous!!

Favourite Makeup Products 2012

Foundation - The Two foundations i have reached for, for the majority of 2012 is my Bourjois Healthy mix in Vanilla & L'Oreal Lumi Magique in Rose Ivory which surprises me as they are both Drug store & cost me less than £10!

Concealer - It's got to be Rimmel Match Perfection this is great for undereye as it Conceals, brightens & lasts all day.

Bronzer - Without a doubt in my mind my favourite Bronzer this year has to be my NYC Smooth Skin in Sunny, it is the most natural looking matte bronzer, also very buildable from day to night & for less than £5 you can't go wrong.

Blusher - This was a tricky one but i settled on Accessorize merged blusher in Pretty Pink, it is a Stunning peachy pink colour with an added sheen great for a subtle highlight during the day, again drugstore for around £6.

Eye Shadow - There have been quite a few new find this year which i really liked using, Maybelline colour tattoo in On & On Bronze, L'Oreal Infallible in Amber Rose & Iced Latte but i have also been reaching for my Naked Palettes & Wet n Wild Comfort palette, So many pretty colours to choose just one! -Sorry...

Mascara - L'Oreal Volume million Lashes in Black, this makes my lashes look amazing - Thick, Full, Long & fluttery, i have used for years on & off trying different ones, but always come back to this one. Around £10.

Eyeliner - I'm not one for using black liner in my water line as i think it makes my eyes look smaller when i wear my glasses, also i usually fail when i try to do a winged look :( but i have been loving the Maybelline  Scandeleyes Waterproof liner in nude & taupe for my waterline & black for smudging near my top lashes for a smokey look. Around £4.

Lips - I'm obsessed with my Nuxe Rive de miel lip balm to make my lips in tip top shape! Then i usually put on a Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Precious, Honey or Cherish. I've also loved the Korres lip butters in Jasmine, Pomegranate & Quince during the day & for night my Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Boy or my YSL Rouge Voluptè Perle in 107.

Highlight - Dior Amber Diamonds as it gives such a lovely natural glow to my skin & the shades can also be used for eyeshadows if needed.

I have discovered some great new & some old favourites this year, let's see what i find in 2013!

Dior Amber Diamonds

The Dior Amber Diamond is a luxurious product that comes with a navy-blue velvet pouch with Christian Dior’s initials. The compact itself is also navy-blue, with Dior written in Silver with a 3D effect Of CD underneath, very Swish!.

The compact has a fab mirror and 5 stripes of gorgeous shimmery powder, in shades of golden-white, champagne, tan, bronze and a golden peach. When you swirl all of the shades together, you get the most stunning shimmery bronze-champagne wash of colour.

The powder is so finely milled and looks subtle on my skin compared to many other highlighters. The colours are shimmery yet pigmented at the same time and can easily be used separately if you use a small brush. In addition to being a great highlighter the Dior Amber Diamond also makes a great eyeshadow palette for a simple, shimmery look. It truly is one of my all-time favourite products. It is also available in Rose diamond which looks very pretty but I'm not sure i need both..

Rrp £32.00.There are rumours that this is being discontinued, but i think it has just changed name to DIOR DiorSkin Poudre Shimmer - Ultra-Shimmering All Over Face Powder  as it is exactly the same in colours & description?
